A very important question that I would like to ask myself more is...

"What actions do I want from other people in order to meet my need for love?"

In an intimate relationship it can be so simple as both people have different requests for love, and how they like to get that need met. And they might not realize that the reason the other persones need for love not getting met is because they have a different request for it.

So today I'm going to try to find out 3 things that I can ask someone to do, real specific, that will meet my need for love. So when someone comes up to me ans asks the most wonderful question of all "What can I do to make your life more wonderful, and specifically, what can I do to meet your need for love?" I will have an answer.

1. I would like to have a kiss in the morning when I wake up beside my partner, BUT ONLY if she wants to do it wil the joy of a little child feeding a hungry duck.
2. I would like to hear if there are any unmet needs on behalf of my partner in relation to me, which is a challenge or even scary for her to tell me about.
3. I would like to find a letter in my jacket pocket with a beautiful photo of nature or a poem that I can enjoy reading while leaving the house.
4. I would like to sit with my partner for at least 15 minutes every day and share what each of us feels gratefull for in our day, in our lives and in our relationship.

Nobody wins in a system of fences and walls

So many conflicts in the world. So much sorrow and pain. So much distrust. And then me, here, feeling the pain of the world, trying to be with it. Trying to embrace it and not rebell or submitt. Trying not to lash out in anger, or become quite to apathy and passivety.

We just saw a film called Lemon Tree. About a Palestinian women and her lemon tree garden who one day gets the Israeli defense minister as a neighbour. Fences are put up and security tightned. The women gets a fence between her and her trees, who start dying from lack of water and care.

The film touched me so much. And I was deeply moved when hearing how the trees were like people to them. The trees had a soul and had feelings. This was shared on both sides of the walls. Even then defense minister said that to his wife. But in his actions he did not reflect any empathy, compassion or understandning for the trees or the Palestinian women. Orders were orders, and security was security.

It pains me to hear people say things like ”i am just following orders” and ”that is not for me to think about” when somebody asks why they follow orders and do things that make life hard for others. For me it became clear that everybody living in such a system is a prisoner, nobody wins and everybody bears pain and suffers from what they are actively, sometime unconciousley taking part in.

How to free ourselves from this prison system? Is the true answer to live by the rule of nonviolence, free oneself from cooperating with unjust laws, rules, policies and regulations? To detach oneself from the heavy jackals of subscribing to such a idea and beleiving it to be true. Ideas like ”Us and them”, ”Terrorist and Freedom fighter”, ”Authority and following orders”. Everyone is trying to take care of their needs, and so in a system that makes it even more difficult to see solutions where everyones needs are met, it is understandable that people fear what they don’t beleive or know anything about.

So those who do know and do beleive in a different world, a different way of relating to one another can inspire those who do not beleive through their actions. Just like the few compassionate people living in Auschwitz, who walked around asking people who they were doing and shared with others their last peice of bread. They survived, because they had a meaning and opened their hearts to the gift of being able to contribute to life, even under the most horrific conditions. They did not lose their souls to any person, idea or system, but instead embraced the pain that was inherent in the system, took in on themselves to show how the system suffers and creates suffering from the very core of it’s nature.

That is true nonviolence. To give up ones life, but to keep on living within the hearts of many who also long to believe in the inherent goodness of human nature. Those who do harm, live on but not in the hearts of others, but in the minds of some, as people who have disgraced humanity and shed suffering over her potential to bloom and nourish all of life. We are all trying to create justice somehow, and thereafter chose our heros of inspiration. When we realize that revenge is the lazy mans way of greiving and mourning, and that every harmed relationship is to do harm to oneself.

I too pray and wish I had the courage to give my life to a higher cause. Maybe that is what I seek when I get so touched and moved from films like Lemon Tree. It’s as if my soul is telling me something it wants to do here on Earth, and it wants me to help it realize that by dedicating my life to the benefit of all, to the benefit of all of mankind, and especially to the future children who will soon walk these soils, of whom WE are the ones borrowing this planet.

This short film inspired me loads when I first saw it over a year ago.
I see a lot of myself in this guy. Someone who wants to find ways of being free and when he does find one way out, he doesn't stop there and walk away, but instead help others also find freedom. Some questions that can be asked after seeing the film.

Where did the man’s freedom come from?

Well it didn't come from the sign that he was given which helped show him a direction. his freedom I think came from him making a choice to try to find freedom. Trying to find the truth, and let it's light bring color into otherwise gray places.

Why is giving the sign to someone else as freeing as getting out of the box yourself?

Yeah this is a wonderful thing to become aware of. Because I think that the one thing we humans enjoy the most in the whole world, and that which we have learned to praise as the greatest gift to life, before the coming of the agricultural revolution, is that of being able to give to others what we ourselves value. Sharing our richness makes us even more rich. It's freeing when we can learn to give without fear. To give truly from the heart. To give without expecting to be rewarded for it, or be scared of being punished if we don't. Our society has taught us that kind of giving which is driven by guilt, shame, punishments and rewards. And that really distorts our inner natural joy in giving to others.

Where do you feel trapped?

Sometimes I feel trapped in a small house where I have to try to make a diference i this world in order to be considered someone, in order to be valued as a part of life on this planet. Trapped in all my notions and dreams and forget that eveyrthing in life is done out of free will.

The title of the film is translated “Freedom from Within”. What do you think it means?

I think it refers to how we are meant to live on this planet, and how we can spend out time here living to the fullest. It means that there is a place within us that nobody can take away from us, so there is nothing we need to protect there, becuase it is ours regardless. We are born free and always continue to live free, but we keep making choices and beleiving in notions that we are not. So true freedom cannot come from the outside and be imposed on us, it is what we cultivate in our inner choices of how we want to live, and see ourselves in the world. That is how freedom also spreads to others and society.

May I tell you where I feel trapped and how I’ve found freedom?

It's been very liberating for me to bring my choices closer to me by learning to take responsability for them and also remind myself that I have never done anything wrong, nobody has. We have only made choice that we might not have made now, having learned what we then were about to learn. So there is no reason for me to fear being punished when I'm confident that I always have this freedom as to how I want to regard myself, as a free spirit or a victim. I find more power and joy in seeing myself as a free spirit, with the gift of making chocies, taking responsability, learning, growing, loving and being authentic that way.

This is Cesar. He is a 1-year old German Shepard who's been living with me for 6 months. Here he is sleeping in the van where I now live during the summer. We've had an awesome adventure together and he's taught me loads about myself and what happends within me and how and why I act in certain ways.

One things he's taught me is about energy, and what happends when I try to focus on what it is I want him to help me with instead of what I don't want. I've also learned a lot about what my feelings do to me and how I can act out from what I want rather than what I am feeling at a particular moment. It can for example be snowing and cold outside and I feel totally uninspired to go for a walk with him, but at the same time I might really want to contribute to him by going for a walk. So therefore I know I can walk him and feel uninspired at the same time and be happy with that. This difference is important for me to see because it means I can do things that I am afraid of and hold my fear or anger, be aware of it, see it and still be in touch with what I need and do what I want. Better way of living than letting my fear and anger get the best of me.

I think that if more men who hit their wifes had this insight they would never act out of anger to harm someone else, but instead deal with their anger in other ways that doesn't bring pain and suffering to someone else. This is a really important thing for me to be aware of, the difference between giving myself or finding empathy for my anger and pain instead of acting it out on others or trying to put the lid on it. Which will make it even harder for me to deal with it later, for it does come back to remind me of the unmet needs I long to meet.

Cesar's taught me a lot about nonviolence and how sometimes using force to protect life can seem violent but is in fact life-serving. A dog can truly be your best friend, not in the sense that they're always constantly pleasant to be with, but in that they really help you take a clear look at yourself so you can make the changes you need to in order to live a more fullfilling life.

Thank you Cesar. For everything you do for me. By just being who you're best a being, a dog.

It's hard to notice from my part of the world that there is a current and coming food crisis. This reminds me of how dependent I am of these great systems that keep me with food while others go starving and how I want to change that by become more self-sufficient. Raised in Vancouver and Toronto, Severn Cullis-Suzuki has been camping and hiking all her life. When she was 9 she started the Environmental Children's Organization (ECO), a small group of children committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues. They were successful in many projects before 1992, when they raised enough money to go to the UN's Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Their aim was to remind the decision-makers of who their actions or inactions would ultimately affect. The Earth song was shot of 4 different continents, all of which are under some form of distress created by man and his technology. Locations include:
1. The Amazon Rainforest - A large part of the forest as seen in the video no longer exists. It was destined to be totally destroyed within a week of the Earth Song video shoot.
2. Croatia - The scenes were shot in the war zone with residents of the area.
3. Tanzania - This footage includes Masai in their own village. No animals were harmed in any way during the making of this music video. Stock footage of the actual inhumane treatment of animals were aquired from documentary archives.
4. New York - The forest fire scenes were created on a six acre outdoor set in the cornfields of Warwick. The shooting occured within the same week as thousands of acres of forrest on Long Island and New Jersey were destroyed from arson.

“We will take direct action against injustice without waiting for other agencies to act. We will not obey unjust laws or submit to unjust practices. We will do this peacefully, openly, cheerfully because our aim is to persuade. We adopt the means of nonviolence because our end is a community at peace with itself. We will try to persuade with our words, but if our words fail, we will try to persuade with our acts. We will always be willing to talk and seek fair compromise, but we are ready to suffer when necessary and even risk our lives to become witness to the truth as we see it.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.

1. Never dehumanize anyone. Try to understand the real needs of your opponents. Always remember that they are human beings too; in fact the more you respect your opponent as a human being, the more effectively you will be able to change their unjust ways — and defend your own ideals. Harm no one: your struggle is with the problem, not the person. Violence begets violence: “Hate can never overcome hate, only love can do that” (Martin Luther King, Jr.) Never harm another’s dignity — or accept harm to your own. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” (MLK, Jr.) Indeed, the power of nonviolence is that it offers everyone a way back to dignity. A Tagalog word for their ‘people power’ in the Philippine uprising of 1986 was alay dangal, ‘to offer dignity.’

2. Your means are your ends. If your thoughts, words, and actions are nonviolent to the greatest extent possible the result will always be positive. As Gandhi said, “violent revolution will bring violent independence.”

3. Patience. An Arabic word for nonviolence is sabr ‘patience.’ Patience with insults you must endure, patience to contain your anger (or fear), patience because in nonviolence the results of your actions may be far off. In nonviolence it is often possible to lose the battle but go on to win the war. And the real ‘win’ we are reaching for is to win over the hearts and minds of even the most opposed. At the same time, know that there is always a solution that will benefit all parties: the way to help an oppressor, as the Prophet said, is to prevent him from oppressing.

4. Constructive Program. In between protests & boycotts, know what programs you can carry out to create the relationships you want to see in your community. You can ‘cooperate with good’ and ‘non-cooperate with evil’. Having both ready and knowing when to emphasize which approach gives great power. In general, be constructive when you can, obstructive when you must. In this connection, do not rely over much on things or tactics that are only symbolic. Be concrete, constructive, compassionate. Create parallel institutions to replace the ones you overthrow — before you overthrow them. It will be easier!

5. Localism. Gandhi called this “swadeshi“. First solve the problems that you are closest to, both geographically and as an individual, before getting involved in the struggles of others. If you focus your efforts there you will find that your circle of influence expands.

Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh discusses what he calls the most important practice in Buddhist meditation—the practice of letting go or “throwing away.” Wrong perceptions, ideas and notions are at the root of our suffering—they are the ground of all afflictions. In order for us to touch happiness in the here and now, we need to throw away the ideas and notions that prevent us from learning and growing. The Diamond Sutra suggestions four notions that should be thrown away: self, human being, living being and life span. The substantive portion of this talk is dedicated to elaborating on these notions as well as our attachment to views, pairs of extremes, and rules and rituals. The talk concludes with the suggestion that we write a letter to help suicide bombers throw away the notions that have created fear and hatred in their hearts.

As part of the United Nation’s International Decade for Action: Water for Life, Dr. Emoto wishes to share his discoveries about the responsive nature of water with children around the world. The man who has made experiments with water which show us how water is affected by our thoughts, intentions and energy. Yesturday was a beautifully sunny day I spent in Stockholm with my dog Cecar and my new friend Johanna. Lots of confusion on my heart that I tried to be with and let be. Somewhere I have loads of thoughts in my head telling me about things I "should" be and things I "ought" to do. I tried to find clarity to what they want to tell me. Somewhere I had a deep need for self-acceptance, empathy and space in my heart to let confusion and pain also knock on the door and say hello. I listened to a Deva Premal cd that Johanna gave me as a gift. It reminds me of the peacefull place of rest and space that we all carry inside. The place in the right side of the brain where we all have a choice to connect when life brings difficulties. Somewhere I'm reminded that everything I do, doesn't matter where I am on the earth, makes a difference.
Here is a song that helps me find this place, so I can water my seeds of hope, coourage and strenght to carry on making a difference.

Bhajan to the patient

Today, while working on the hospital I met a man who spoke Enlgish, who had just been in a very loud machine that he called hell! While I saw he was very weak and releived to be out of the machine, I was humming on a bhajan while pushing his wheelchair. He asked if I could sing him a bhajan so I sang the one I was humming on. After having arrived at his room he gave me a beautifull look and said thank you, I could feel he was touched and his whole heart was in those words.
So inspired by this incident I found this sanskit bhajan which I find as beautiful as that moment with the patient.

Jill Bolte Taylor: My stroke of insight

This is an amazing presentation by Jill Bolte Taylor who tells her story of when she woke up one morning with a massive stroke. Incredible to hear how she experienced those hours of totally living in the moment of being "perfect, whole and beautifull". Very inspiring. For me that which touches the most is what she says the last few minutes of the talk. She says "I remember thinking, there is no way I'll be able to squeez the enormousness of myself back into my body." I also love when she says "We have the freedom to choose moment by moment who and what we want to be in the world. Right here, right now. I can chose to step into the conciousness of my right hemisphere where we are, I am the life force power of the Universe. Or we can chose to step in to the left hemisphere where we are seperate beings, disconnected from the whole. Which would you chose? Which do you chose? And when?"

The more time we spend chosing to run the deep inner peace curcuitry of our right hemisphere. The more peace we will project into the world. And the more peacfull our planet will be.

Jill Bolte Taylor got a research opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: She had a massive stroke, and watched as her brain functions -- motion, speech, self-awareness -- shut down one by one. An astonishing story.

Escape from Suburbia - South Central Los Angeles Farm

A 14 acre community garden i south central Los Angeles. The mayor wanted to use the area as a trashing center but the local residents rose up and said no. The gardens supply 350 families with food. The program was meant to give people opportunities to help themselves. To take something they know and allow them to turn it into something that can help their families. They are growing not only food but also herbs that serve as natural medecine. A lot of the medicenal plants here are not sold but given to people, because it's about helping someones health. For people who cannot afford healthcare, this is their healthcare. This is a truly global solution. Going local, helping people and their communities connect and create. For me, it's beautiful and a way of surviving I want to be a part of. Keep watching the following documentaries. As the land was retaken and the people evicted...

The following practice is very simpel and powerful!

Here's what to do:

- Take out a blank sheet of paper or open up a word processor where you can
type.
- Write at the top, "What is my true purpose in life?"
- Write an answer (any answer) that pops into your head.
It doesn't have to be a complete sentence. A short phrase is fine.
- Repeat step 3 until you write the answer that makes you cry.
This is your purpose.

It took about a year to build her along with sewing her sails and making her ropes. We sailed her on the maiden voyage on a very gray and rainy May 17th. A very special day in my heart. Waking up in the morning to the sound of rain on the roof. Feet falling to a cold floor and stillness leaving a presence within the cosy walls of my magic van. This is Tesh who's standing on a farm about 6km outside Uppsala. Here I have everything I need. Caravan life is wonderfull in it's simplicity. Reminds me of something I heard my boat building teacher tell me after having met a man on a trip to India. The man told my teacher that one way to become truly happy is to live a life with high thinking in simple living. That is what I'm trying too. On Saturday I had a visit from 3 new souls in my van. We had tea and talked about caravan life. I learned that Tesh was from a place in Sweden called Stöde in the Hälsingland region. A beautiful part of the country with soft mountains and lakes. We think she was built sometime in the 50's and used as a grocery store in small villages. The door at the back was used as an entrence and products where probably placed along shelves dressing the sides. A few years ago an author used the van as a place to write a book. She is an inspirational place to be in. I'm dreaming of building my own housetruck one day. A place to be and stay in for these coming days of change in our society. A way of trying to live differently, more sustainable, closer to the land and the simplicity of life long forgotten in modern civilization. In due time.

god is a gardener

before the dawn of my very own birth
god was up with the sun to plant some very special seeds in the garden of life.
it was such a beautiful morning
that god decided to take extra care
and fully try to appreciate the beauty that was waking all around.

god noticed that some of the flowers seemed dry and sad
and thought,
- if they could collect water during these early morning hours
maybe it would help them flourish
even on hot days.

just then
in a magnificent act of crystal sparkles
small drops of water appeared before gods eyes
to lay rest on the many blades of grass and petals in bloom.

this is perfect, god thought and smiled
- i am so happy with my garden
but you know what would be even more beautiful on this very special morning
a new divine flower,unique in its character and gracefull in its ways, right over there next to the basil and thym.
god then took a seed from within the treasure of everything
looked at it for a moment and smiled.
- you are to become a truly valuable creation
for i have invited the whole universe here now to help you manifest,
welcome to life in your new stunning form.

god blew life into the seed which started to sprout and planted it lovingly deep into the earth.
- it may feel dark, difficult and lonely when you notice you are growing god said
and so i have whispered through your soul that it be strong and devoted to the cause of reaching light and fullness of its potential,
have trust dear seed, that you are being taken care off.

underneath the layers of soil now lay the possibilities for another expression of life,
on that morning god planted your very own seed in the warm care of a great mother,
for you to rest, grow and bloom, become strong and true to your potentials of sprouting beauty and life
from this morning onto every other morning to come.

god took another seed from the same treasure of life,
blessed it in the same way and planted it next to you,
this was to become me as i remember us growing up together,
with common roots, sprouting in the same soil, with the same purpose.

we are truly one at the depths of our existence,
let us always remember that day when we were tiny little seeds so full of life and joy,
sharing a great adventure,

of injust destruction
to stories of people we call criminal
and their acts of desperation
in the darkest hour

we wake to them talking
about business and money
about how we greed for more
and hurt our world
as if we were seperate

it becomes so clear
that we are soaking in a marinade
mixed by the dominance of powerfull positions

as we are being told these stories
about our darkness, weakness and contracted awareness
we start to belive them
as if they were
the true stories about us

i long to hear
and wait in patience
for the day it is reported
that we are all full moons
reflecting the divine lifegiving light of god
onto this world

they keep at discussions of wrong and right
i remain patient
breathing
being

we go to sleep with the news of injust destruction
to stories of people we call mad
and their attempts to meet their needs

suddenly a silence falls upon us
rooms turn dark with emptiness
and our lonely loves tread forth
